A report today from “The Wall Street Journal” claims Nintendo is developing a Zelda game for IOS and Android. No further details have been revealed, however Nintendo has announced they will release 5 games for IOS and Android in the coming year. We already have “Miitomo”, “Super Mario Run” and “Fire Emblem Heroes”. Will Zelda be the next mobile game to join them?
Seeing Zelda on IOS and Android would make a lot of people’s dreams come true, especially if they don’t currently own a Nintendo Switch as a portal.
Judging from the success of Mario and Pokemon Go and with the same massive fan base behind it, I’m sure Zelda will be a huge success in the mobile market. Super Mario Run has been downloaded over 78 million times. Zelda is another fan favorite, and with the recent launch of Zelda Breath of the Wild Nintendo should expect no less from any mobile game bearing the Zelda name.
How will it play? I’m not sure. It will most likely be similar to the DS version, as I don’t think IOS or Android could support a 3rd person adventure in an open world setting.
Perhaps we will see an official announcement at Nintendo’s E3 press conference on the 13th of June.
As for Zelda mobile releasing this year I’m not so sure. Nintendo had previously planned to have five Mobile games out by March 2017, so far we have three. If this game is the 4th maybe it could be ready for a holiday season release, but my instincts tell me it could be as late as a February 2018 launch.
